There are approximately 13.6 million single mothers in the United States today, and those moms are responsible for raising 21.2 million children (approximately 26% of children under 21 in the U.S. today).

79% of custodial single mothers are gainfully employed.

50% of single mothers are below the poverty line, their children are 6 times more likely to be in poverty than children with married parents.
